Turmeric powder (haldi) is one of the most undervalued food items we keep in our household. A common spice used in cuisines across India. Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric. This humble spice has many benefits and types.

BENEFITS OF TURMERIC

1. REDUCES ARTHRITIS PAIN
Turmeric has strong anti-inflammatory properties can help ease inflammation and swelling with joint pain or arthritis.

TYPES OF TURMERIC

1. COMMERCIAL-GRADE TURMERIC POWDER
This is the type of turmeric we get at the supermarket. This is grown in large quantities across India and is what large FMCG brands sell.

LOCATION: Grown in large quantities across India.
IDEAL USE: Cooking

2. CERTIFIED-ORGANIC TURMERIC POWDER
This is grown by farmers who have put in the time and effort to get their farmlands certified under NPOP/NOP standards. These are internationally accepted standards, commonly known as 'India Organic' and 'USDA Organic' standards. There are a few more organic standards for domestic use, but we prefer internationally accepted quality standards. This is better for your health because it is grown without the use of chemicals, which are normally present in large-scale commercially-grown food.
CURCUMIN CONTENT: Less than 1%
LOCATION: Grown in small quantities across India.
IDEAL USE: Cooking

3. HIGH-CURCUMIN TURMERIC POWDER
This is a new concept for the Indian domestic market. High-curcumin turmeric powder is turmeric where curcumin (active ingredient) is more than 3%. Due to high international demand and low availability, it is picked from the farmer and exported directly. But in recent years, few Indian brands have begun trying to promote and create a demand for this amazing variety within the country. This gives the local farmers confidence that they will be able to successfully find buyers for their turmeric locally.
CURCUMIN CONTENT: More than 6%
LOCATION: Tribal farmers in various states
IDEAL USE: Medical uses. Reduces joint pain. Boosts immunity.

HOW TO CONSUME HIGH-CURCUMIN TURMERIC POWDER

1. Mix in water, early morning or post-dinner
2. Mix in milk, early morning or post-dinner
3. Mix in tea, during the day
